Being lovers of sailing we took advantage of the last Windjammer show of the season. What better time to be in New England than the fall to see some of the Autumn colors. We headed up to Maine and boarded the Windjammer Schooner Mary Day for lots of sailing and lobster.

Mary Day is a 50 year old windjammer that was heading out to Penobscot Bay off the coast of Camden for the final 4 day cruise of the season to see the fall foliage.

Water temp was in the mid 50’s air temp in the high 60’s. Great for sailing and wandering around all the islands and coves in Penobscot Bay.

We anchored each night in a protected cove and went ashore for walks and often saw Monarch Butterflies just before they headed south for the winter.

The food was wonderful. Days started early in the morning on deck with fresh coffee. Early morning coffee, then a hearty New England breakfast with Vermont maple syrup, great chowders for lunch and one night for dinner the ultimate all you can eat soft shell lobster feast on the beach.

The leaves had just begun to change, although not yet in full fall colors, there were some places that were absolutely beautiful. And every night the sunsets seemed to get more gorgeous.

We always take lots of pictures usually with different cameras and it is always interesting to watch others taking their pictures. A recently retired veteran still taking pictures with his manual Nikon camera saying "some day I’m gonna get one of those Digital's" And there were many who were learning to use new cameras and will do whatever it takes to get that long shot, even if it means using a pair of binoculars to do it.

This was a great way to relax after a show and yet another and experience that will be hard to forget.
