Photos You Can Eat Off

Following these 4 simple steps, you can make some remarkable photo placemats for you and your family

Article rating: 7.30

This project will turn your favorite photographs into placemats and coasters and all you need is a local copyshop that has a lamination machine. The lamination process is essentially a heating process where plastic is welded around your image making it water resistant.

Here's What You Need:
  • A good (high resolution) printout or photograph of your pictures.
  • A cutting machine
  • Glue
  • Thin Cork sheet and strong plastic glue (optional)

Here's What To Do: Step 1

You go to your local copyshop and get A3 copies or enlargements done (or however big you want your placemats to be. A3 is usually the size limit of the lamination machine).

Step 2:

Make sure you get nice colors in your photocopies, a good copy shop will adjust the color balance for you free of charge. If you want your placemats to have 2 sides to it so that you can flip the images over as you like, crop 2 images so that the front and back image of your placemat are of identical size. It helps to stick both photocopies together with a little glue.

Step 3:

Let your copy shop laminate your arrangement. For this your photocopies will be placed inside an A3 plastic sheet, then inside a holder and be fed through the hot lamination machine.

Crop your final laminated placemat in the cutting machine so that you have only about a quarter of an inch of plastic border around your photographs.
