Because 35mm film has been around since the 1930's, doesn't it represent old technology?

It is true that the 35mm film format has been widely used for decades. However, film emulsions -- the image-forming layers found on today's films -- are far more sophisticated and capable of capturing clear, sharp pictures across a wide range of lighting conditions than they were even five years ago.
