PIB - New Orleans Boat Show 2008 The Photo Information Booth started 2008 by participating in the 38th annual New Orleans Boat Show, January 9-13. Article rating: 9.50

This 5 day show displayed little boats, big boats, all sorts of marine accessories, fishing tackle, clothing, jewelry, lounge chairs and for the 9th straight year the Photo Information Booth.

Most attendees were mainly interested in boats and fishing, but boaters and fisherman and sportsman also wear sunglasses, use all sorts of electronic equipment and also take pictures.

As in past years especially since Katrina there has been a large presence of the National Guard at this show.

These men and woman, several who have served in the middle east were present to show what was done by Katrina and what progress has been made since. At the New Orleans Show exhibitors donate prizes to the "Parade of Prizes" this gives everyone the incentive to register at the Discover Boating Display . As usual the PIB participated by donating a camera.

A large schedule of seminars mainly fishing were presented by several professional fisherman as well as some of the exhibitors. These included seminars on fishing, boating and scuba diving. These were well received with many interesting questions. At the PIB it was again obvious that the majority of questions, interest and demonstrations were about digital SLR‘s. It was also obvious that people in general are more aware of what is going on with (Photo8) digital cameras. As witnessed in the past few years more and more attention is given to SLRs with an amazing number of users upgrading with each new model available. At this show SLR’s received more attention than the P&S equipment and it is obvious that people know more about what is available. They are seriously looking at features, pricing and ease of using in SLRs. There appears to be a growing need for classes, instructions, and workshops on using camera features to their fullest advantages.

The PIB is now in Chicago for the Chicago Sail at the end of January.
