1)  As a fashion photographer, you need to determine whether you're shooting a personality or if you're shooting fashion.  Is the emphasis on the person, or on the clothing, or ensemble? Knowing that will determine the outcome of the fashion image.

2)  Rules are meant to be broken, but before you break the rules, you must first know what they are.

3)  Metering is very important. Exposure is essential in obtaining the tonality of the image. You need to determine what you're exposing it for.  Is it for the details? The shadows?

4) It is a cliché, but very true that as a fashion photographer, you are the conductor, your models are your orchestra, and your clients or viewers of the pictures are the audience. So you have to direct and entertain. Your performance will reflect in your pictures.

5) Selling is key - a fashion photographer must be able to sell his images to the fashion editor. Fashion photography is art but also advertising - selling clothes.

6) Fashion photo editors are looking for concise images that clearly communicate an idea. You must, as a fashion photographer, have the ability to create unique settings and scenes.

7) Photography and fashion both have many sub genres. A fashion photographer must be good in multiple photography disciplines. You need to be a portrait photographer as well as able to create images for the advertisement market.

8) Keep up to date with fashion publications, study the market and always be on the lookout for changing trends.  You are playing to a forward aesthetic without being so far ahead that you alienate the market. You must constantly evolve your work to reflect fashion as it is fickle and itself constantly changing.

9) The relationship between model and photographer is very important. The two people performing to produce the art must be on the same page. Talk to your model, some people can be talented but hard to work with; psychology can play a part when it comes to this.  Listen to them, even if your education and experience conflict with their suggestion.

10) To be a successful fashion photographer you must also have a love of fine design clothes - without it you will never achieve the heights that bring success. A fashion photographer must know what is happening in fashion and have the ability to use his/her imagination to sell new designs

The pictures were great. The pedagogical value was nil. It was common-sense. Of course exposure is important; of course, have a rapport with the model. So, what's else is new? Nu?
