Shaker tags are tags that have a small plastic-covered window, and inside the window are tiny embellishments that move as you shake the tag. For Christmas, the filling could be white or silver glitter to look like snow. At other times of the year think of tiny red candies, dried flowers, rice, seeds tiny beads  whatever your imagination conceives as being appropriate for the season or occasion.

Once you know how to construct a shaker, you can adapt it for cards and decorations for every season and holiday.

What You'll Need:
  • You'll Need
  • Tag template (copy our pattern, making it any desired size)
  • Blue cardstock
  • Thin acetate sheet, such as a page protector
  • Laundry-dryer softener sheet
  • Double-stick foam mounting tape
  • Double-stick transparent tape
  • Round or square punch, about 3/4-inch diameter
  • Small photograph of winter scene, slightly larger than the hole you will punch
  • Regular hole punch
  • Stickers or other decorations
  • Silver glitter
  • 10-inch length of narrow ribbon or yarn
  • Paste, pencil, ruler

Here's What To Do:

1. Use the template to trace two tags onto the cardstock; cut them out.

2. Use the large punch to punch a hole in one tag. This will be the cover tag. The other tag will be the base tag.

3. Place the cover tag over the base tag and trace the hole.

4. Paste the photograph over this tracing.

...continued.

5. Use thin strips of foam mounting tape to make a wall surrounding the photograph, making sure there are no gaps in your wall. Do not remove the protective liner that's on the top of the foam tape.

6. Decorate the cover tag as you wish. I used snowflake stickers.

7. Cut a piece of acetate somewhat larger than the foam wall.

8. Rub the acetate well with a laundry dryer sheet. This will eliminate static electricity.

9. Put a small amount of glitter inside the wall.

10. Carefully remove the protective liner from the foam tape.

11. Place the acetate on top of the wall and press it down well so the glitter won't leak out.

12. Put strips of double-sided transparent tape along the sides and bottom of the base tag.

13. Place the cover tag over the base, aligning them carefully, and press the two tags together.

14. If necessary, trim the front of the tag to even the edges.

15. Punch a hole at the top of tag with a regular hole punch.

16. Loop yarn or ribbon through the hole.
