Personlized Wine Labels

Article rating: 6.00

Toast your special clients by sending them a bottle of wine labeled with your company's photo and wording such as, "From the wine cellar of XYZ Company." Or you might print "Salut! Prost! Lechaim! Kanpai! from XYZ Company." Do it all in your computer. Don't forget to include the type of wine and the vintage year. Cheers!

What You'll Need:
  • Photograph
  • Basic photo-editing program
  • Publishing program or word-processing program (unless your photo-editing program lets you add text)
  • 8 1/2 x 11 self-adhesive ink jet computer sheets (such as Avery 8165)
  • Paper trimmer
  • Acrylic spray sealer

Here's What to do:

1. Choose an appropriate photograph, such as a picture of you, your house, the recipient, or the recipient's house.

2. Scan the photograph and import it into your photo editing program on the computer. If you don't have a scanner, have your film lab put the picture on a disk; then use your photo editing program to import it into your computer.

3. Make any desired enhancements of the photo.

4. In your publishing or word-processing program, adjust the margins to approximately 6 inches wide. You want the label to be easily read without turning the bottle.

5. Type the desired words, using an appropriate size, font, and color. You might write something like "From the wine cellars of John Craftsman " or "A special wine in honor of Tyrone's birthday." Also include the type and vintage of wine.

6. Insert the photograph above the words, resizing and positioning it by following the instructions in the program's instruction manual. In Word Perfect, for example, go to Insert>Graphics>From file>whatever file your picture is in. In Microsoft Publisher, draw an outline with the Picture Frame tool, the click Insert>Picture>From File >whatever file your picture is in. Resize the picture by dragging one of the black corner squares.

7. Print.

8. Cut to size using a paper trimmer.

9. Waterproof the label by spraying it with some sort of sealer such as artist's fixative or acrylic sealer.

10. Allow the wine bottle to come up to room temperature and apply the label.
