Contrary to the title of the television show he stars in, Nathan Purdee has two lives to live: that of an accomplished actor and of a developing photographer. Purdee originated the role of One Life to Live's Hank 'the Cannon' Gannon, a streetwise ex-cop-turned-maverick district attorney in February 1992. Purdee uses photography as a way to fill in the various gaps in his life left unfulfilled by his acting career. Not only does photography fill the spaces in his schedule, but it also provides the creative expression that Gannon’s character denies him. Since his move to New York, Mr. Purdee has had the lead roles in two independent films, In a Blue Mood and Media Maid. Mr. Purdee also started his own production company, Karmic Release, Ltd. He served as executive producer on his first film, Wallowitch & Ross: THIS MOMENT, called "one of the outstanding documentaries of the year" by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
While acting, Purdee must take on the role of an honest, moral attorney. He finds that although he does enjoy acting, Gannon’s good guy personality does not stimulate his need for excitement in his life. This void is what Purdee believes allows him to adopt the daring style that is reflected in most of his photographic works. “I want to be a bad guy; I want to shake things up,” Purdee said.
