"Ever since I got my first rangefinder camera about 20 years ago, I've been fascinated with photography. As soon as I could, I bought myself an SLR and have been happily developing my skills every chance I get. It's a rewarding way to express my creativity and to make records of the things I see and do. I work with slide film because slides give me back exactly what I put on film, and because I like to look at my photos projected in large size on the screen.
I have lugged around my camera, lenses and tripod while backpacking in the mountains of California, on camping trips all over the west and on trips to both Europe and Asia. I find when I get home that the results make all the extra weight and gear worthwhile.
I'm fascinated by the way changing light impacts a landscape or cityscape. The photos in this group all owe much to the quality of the light when they were taken. The strange formations in the moonrise shot are Tufa - a calcium carbonate formation made under water when Mono Lake in California was at a much higher level than it is now. The plane is a vintage DC-3, and the bridge is the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge."
