Landscapes

by Stephen Canning
Here's How to Take Great Pictures of Landscapes.

If so, compose your shot to fit the scene. As a general rule, positioning the horizon in the center of a shot will reduce the energy and interest. Instead, tilt your camera up to place the horizon in the bottom of the shot and emphasize a sunset, or tilt your camera down to place the horizon at the top of the shot and include as much detail as you can. Also keep in mind the direction and intensity of light. Consider how the morning and afternoon sun will illuminate your scene, and try to shoot it when the light is most favorable. Often, the long shadows of the evening will bring more texture and detail to the landscape. If your widest angle lens (or widest zoom lens setting) isn't enough to capture the whole shot, consider taking several photographs, turning 45 degrees each time. You can later put these images together in image editing software.
