Dear TakeGreatPictures.com//

Excuse me, I was recently browsing through the TakeGreatPictures.com website, and I noticed that you have an Everyday People, Everyday Pictures photo link. Well, I am an everyday photo taker. I could not find any contact details to mail my photos to exactly. So I thought I would just send these in and hope for the best. I hope you don't mind I have attached a short write-up and the photos. Please let me know if you like them.

Sincerely, Robert Marthaller

TGP // Well, Rob we liked them and we're happy to be featuring you as our newest Everyday Person, Everyday Picture Profile for the month of June. Thanks for sending us these shots and we hope you keep logging onto TakeGreatPictures.com.

Rio, Brazil "While standing at the peak of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro it is hard not to feel in the presence of something great with the statue of Christ the Redeemer dominating the horizon. Even for those like myself who have not always followed their faith to the fullest extent.

I recently visited Brazil after finding out that a newly acquired Aunt of mine owned a house mere blocks from the beach in lively Barra da Tijuca, a bustling suburb of Rio. More than anything, I was just glad to get away from the ever-wicked weather that we were tormented by here in North America through the winter and early part of spring. In fact, I was so eager to leave that, five minutes after taking off from the terminal at SeaTac airport in Seattle, I realized that I had actually forgotten my APS camera on the dresser at home.

Unwilling to experience the wonders of Rio without taking at least a few tell tale snapshots as proof of my adventure I made sure one of the first things I did was buy a new 35mm camera and a couple roles of film. The photos you see were taken with a surprisingly economical point-and-shoot camera that I bought at a shopping mall in the Barra. I was nervous, during and after taking them that they might not turn out well, but, lo and behold, I think they turned out wonderful. The wind was blowing atop the mountain, and every-so-often a cloud would make its way behind the statue, sometimes engulfing it completely, adding to the overall experience and to the uniqueness of the photos. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them."
