The FARMANI GALLERY OPENS in NEW YORK’s PHOTO DISTRICT – DUMBO, NEW YORK - In conjunction with New York Photo Festival. On May 14, 2008, The Farmani Gallery opened its doors in DUMBO, New York to a packed house. Farmani Gallery is originally based in Los Angeles, California and made the East Coast leap to a burgeoning photography community in time for the launch of the first annual New York Photo Festival. Hossein Farmani, owner and founder said “I am thrilled and excited to be a part of the New York Photography Community, and am overwhelmed by the support and turnout for our first show. It’s an exhilarating and refreshing time to open a new space, especially in DUMBO, where more and more galleries are opening their doors showing innovative new and vintage works. I look forward to showcasing the work of both well-known and emerging photographers in this exciting collective of gallery spaces.” The show is a culmination of curated works by Anthony Bannon, Colin Westerbeck, Debra Weiss and Jeff Griffith. Blurb is a book publishing platform that enables you to make, share and sell books of your own photography work (or anything you want). Blurb is our book partner for the 2007 IPA book and you should consider making a book with them, for promotion, for sale or for fun. Blurb is hosting an event this year that celebrates the photography community and here's how you can get involved. Photography.Book.Now is an international juried book competition, traveling salon and symposium. The grand prize is $25,000 and the competition is open now. Enter one or several books, and invite your friends and colleagues to join in on the competition. Entries are accepted through July 14th at www.photographybooknow.com . There are meet-ups in San Francisco, New York, London and Cologne, and a half-day symposium featuring photographers, publishers, photo editors and book designers.
