Henry Diltz is one of rock and roll’s greatest photographers. He’s been snapping shots of musicians for nearly four decades and has photographed more than a hundreds album covers which hold some of the most famous images in rock and roll. His work has appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Life, Newsweek, and People. He was the official photographer of the Monterey Pop Festival and of Woodstock.

On a June night I joined an old friend of Henry’s for a visit to his North Hollywood home. Before we headed out for dinner, I had the privilege of looking through prints of Henry’s work. I beheld photographs of artists from Jim Morrison to Kurt Cobain and I would rather have stuck around and looked through a thousand more but our party was moving onto Hollywood Boulevard. Thankfully a week later, I had the opportunity to meet Henry again at his home and talk with him about his art.
