Photographing Rainbows

Photographing Rainbows

Professional Photographer Jim Reed offers a photo tip and a location for National Photo Month.

Article rating: 9.17

I captured this image in south-central Kansas, about 20 miles outside of Wichita. Rainbows this vivid and full are usually found on the backside of a thunderstorm or downpour. In my experience, the best time to experience and photograph a rainbow in Kansas is May 1 - June 15. After that, the fields are no longer green.  Be sure to use a circular polarizer. You'll be amazed at the difference!
