HOW TO CLEAN EVERYTHING: BATTERY TERMINALS

Part Four of TakeGreatPictures.com's HOW TO CLEAN EVERYTHING PHOTOGRAPHIC GUIDE shows you how to clean your camera's battery terminal

Article rating: 8.62

  1. Lightly rub both ends of AAA and larger batteries and easily accessible terminals with a clean pencil eraser before installing disposable batteries in your equipment to improve the electrical contact. Wipe the contacts of small and rechargeable batteries with a microfiber cloth before installing them and be careful not to touch the contacts or terminals with your fingers to prevent acidic skin oils from causing corrosion.
  2. Clean dirty or corroded contacts with a Battery Contact Cleaner Pencil, available from most photo stores. If the contacts are inaccessible, have them professionally cleaned, or as a last resort, scrape them with a thin tool such as a jeweler’s screwdriver.
  3. Always hold the battery compartment pointing downward when cleaning camera or other contacts so any dust or debris will fall out of the camera by gravity.

What about baking soda? I just read you can make a paste with a small amount of water, apply, and then remove with a tooth brush.
