Don't Be Afraid to Ask by Joel Silverman

Professional photographer Joel Silverman offers a summer photo tip.

Article rating: 8.50

Sometimes strangers that you meet on the road make great portrait subjects.  Never be afraid to ask someone to pose.  The worst thing that could happen is that they might say no... and they almost never do say no.  People are usually flattered to be asked to pose for a photograph, especially when the photographer promises to send a printed copy as an expression of thanks.  Important tips are to be prepared with your camera ready and a quick prestudy of where the light is "just right" so that you can photograph your subject quickly and let them go about with their business.  And never promise to send a photograph and fail to do so -- that strains the bonds of trust for photographers that come after you.

The following portrait was made of a stranger at a roadside rest stop in New Mexico.

Hello I like this photo for many reasons but firstly I like the fact that your subject stands out and the background is a bit blurry.
