Fujifilm Applauds Industry Initiative to Deliver Affordable 3D Motion Pictures

Pledges Full Support to Enable Exhibitors and Consumers Rapid and Broad Access To High Quality 3D Film Experience

HOLLYWOOD, CA, October 29, 2009 – Fujifilm today pledged its full commitment to a technology solution that will significantly increase the availability of 3D motion picture content at a time when consumer interest in 3D is exploding, yet exhibitors have struggled to affordably provide a 3D experience in their theaters.

Last month Thomson’s Technicolor Business Group, the world leader in physical media manufacturing, distribution and related supply chain services, announced an affordable 3D process that works with existing 35mm projectors.  Recent technological advances in filmmaking such as Digital Intermediate and Fujifilm’s RDI film stock have reinvigorated the popular 3D theatrical experience. Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, a leading motion picture laboratory, will work with Technicolor to quickly provide exhibitors with the necessary post-production and film printing services. This week, Thomson announced widespread support for the Technicolor 3D solution among major motion picture studios.

“Fujifilm is working to expand solutions for 3D imaging on many fronts, and we fully support an innovative and timely solution that will allow the motion picture industry to continue to benefit from the superior quality of film, and bring 3D within the economic reach of all theater owners,” said Kevin Masuda, president, FUJIFILM North American Motion Picture Group. “We applaud Technicolor, and its marketing partner, Deluxe, for their accomplishment and stand ready to support them with the highest quality film stocks for the Technicolor 3D experience.”

Earlier this year, Fujifilm introduced the FinePix REAL 3D digital camera system, the world’s first three dimensional (3D) digital imaging system that captures realistic 3D still photographs and movies, providing 3D images that users can enjoy without special 3D glasses. With the FinePix REAL 3D system, Fujifilm is offering users a totally new experience in both still pictures and movies to capture precious moments just as their eyes see them. Unlike any other digital imaging product on the market today, the introduction of this innovative advance in digital stereoscopic photography has placed Fujifilm at the forefront of imaging technology.
