![]() Three sisters bonded by marriage: This is a picture of how my wife Leah, our sister-in-law Nicole and our cousin Kierston try their hardest to be sexy at a Christmas party. Every woman has this in her -- the desire to replicate something they've seen in a magazine. What's funny is that in replication, everyone tries too hard. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Ross kissing a door sign. This is the emotional reward for finally getting to our hotel (Atlantis in the Bahamas), as it had been an arduous trip and I had become temporarily deaf in one ear due to an infection. The room looked so amazing and had such an extraordinary view that I kissed the room number every time we came back. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah and Buster on the floor. Buster (our Mountain Burmese dog) is Leah's big cuddly boy-toy. He makes all her troubles go away. This was a time when she was struggling to write music for her album, and was pleading with Buster to give her inspiration. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Buster (our Burmese Mountain dog) as a baby -- in a state of relaxation humans rarely enjoy. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah with Buster and our other dog, our Lhasa-poo, Benz, in heaven. This is how she would describe her perfect day. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Every day, Buster (all 115 pounds of him) bounds up on the bed to lie next to Leah. He still thinks he is a puppy. Leah encourages this flawed thinking. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() The last time Leah could pick up Buster. Literally one week later she tried and couldn't raise him above her knees. Buster pretends to like it. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Our professional-dancer friend Jessica with Buster. As big and scary as he looks and barks, everyone falls in love with this behemoth within one hug. His fur is so soft and his nature so gentle. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Outside the guest cottage in the back of our house. This was a test shot for Leah's latest CD. The staging was so "obvious" we opted not to use it, although I still like to think of her in this pose when I see the little house. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() This horse, Bella, was born 250 feet from our house. We drove by every day and watched her hobble her way to balance. When she was old enough, our neighbor let us get in the corral with her, and as you can see, Leah loves her. And truthfully, how many people look good hugging a horse? © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() This was taken in the front of our house for Leah's album. We have this out-of-control grass in our yard that made a perfect ambiguous background for Leah's "attitude" shot. We used the picture in the booklet for her CD, Her Other Life. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Another shot in front of our house. We live near horse trails and Leah is sitting on one of the trail rails. I like the composition of the shot. Leah didn't so we nixed it from the album. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Color version of the previous. This one doesn't have the same historical quality. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() My latest model, Lauren Rae Shafer. She was five days old. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Everyone loves Lauren, but there will be grumpy days. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() My boys Ryan (left) and Adam (right) in love with their new baby sister. © 2006 Ross Shafer

![]() Me, as the wedding photographer at my nephew's wedding. At this moment, my nephew, Jared, realizes he has forgotten the rings. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Catching Benz and his Chihuahua friend Big playing dress-up. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah's first CD was an experiment and had mixed messages. Some of the shots for it were serious and sexy, others playful and evasive. This is an example of the latter. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() The "gazing" shot that looks neither sexy nor random. It didn't make the cut. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Again, for her first album. This is just fun and more accurately depicts Leah's personality. Although she never wears hats. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Pure Christian sex appeal. We loved this shot but decided it was too risqué for her audience. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() This is how Leah feels about life. Open...hopeful... energized. I took this at the end of the day when she thought we were done shooting. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() I loved the rock wall in Laguna Beach so much that we took several shots. It doesn't make sense that she is ostensibly getting cozy with the wall, but I loved the textures against her beauty. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() The rock-wall shot looked much better cropped. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah smiling against a rock wall looked like a vacation picture. Didn't make the cut for the CD © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() The wooden steps leading to the beach at Laguna. I loved the look; especially in sepia. Lots of dimension and interest (at least to me) about this location. It could have been Egypt. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Nobody would ever have this pensive look except if you were trying to come up with an album-cover shot. But I still like the elements in the picture. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah sitting on the steps didn't work for me. Dramatic steps and a sitting beauty? This should have been an action sequence but no Ninja were standing nearby. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Finally! I love this shot. It's sexy. It's dramatic. It has attitude and dimension. Reminds me of a strong but trapped woman ready to fight back without fear. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() I just love Leah's smile in this shot. I took this when she was tired and begging me to put away the gear and get back in the car. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Bill Nye, the Science Guy, has been a close friend for 20 years. The irony that he would help me assemble my telescope was shot-worthy. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah loves Benz, her angel dog who got her through life before she met me. His personality is unemotionally cat-like but she loves him to death. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() This pic had a much more revealing nature before the crop. I had just gotten a new Harley Road King motorcycle and Leah was pretending to be the hot biker chick. She was! But the cropped shot reveals a sweeter sexiness. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Our two dogs when Buster was a baby. He and Benz sharing a bone is priceless. I think this documents the last time that ever happened. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() We kept Buster in a caged area until he was trained. Benz loved to be in there with him - as if to show the little guy the ropes. Leah actually fell asleep in their caging area with the dogs; that's how much she loves them. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() As an eager-to-please, four-month-old puppy, Buster has retained this same look into adulthood. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Leah's best friend (and former roommate) Michelle Sirgy and two of her three kids. She's crazy all the time. This is Michelle being calm. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Pals forever. I came home from a long trip and neither Buster nor Benz ran to my feet for a welcome. Instead, they chilled on the steps until I was unpacked – and then, on their own terms, greeted me home. Can't fight the brotherhood. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Ok, what's funnier than finding a rooster under your rental car in Hawaii? Three roosters. But they ran away before I could focus. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() My son, Ryan, measuring himself against his "brother," Buster. As you can see, Buster also like to measure himself against Ryan. © 2006 Ross Shafer
![]() Benz trying to hump Buster ... and Buster is like, "Are you kidding me? A minute ago you bit my lip for chewing your favorite bear?" © 2006 Ross Shafer
