2006 King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade - Honolulu, HI
Colourful floral floats, glamorous Pa'u riders and outstanding marching bands fill the streets of Honolulu for the annual King Kamehameha Floral Parade.
In the late 18th century, the expansionist desires of the chief Kamehameha from the Big Island of Hawaii were realised when he managed to consolidate the Hawaiian Islands under his control. In 1795 he took Oahu in one of the last and bloodiest battles of the campaign. In the 1840s, the decree of Kamehameha III settled the Hawaiian royal court permanently in Honolulu.
The founding of the Hawaiian royal state is celebrated with a spectacular parade in downtown Honolulu on the Saturday preceding the king's birthday on 11 June. The statue of King Kamehameha the Great stands opposite the Judiciary Building and is covered in 40-foot leis (traditional Hawaiian floral necklaces) for the occasion.
The parade starts at the intersection of King and Richards Sts, moves down Punchbowl St onto Ala Moana Blvd, merging into Kalakaua Ave and ending at the Queen Kapiolani Park.

2006 Haight Ashbury Street Fair - San Francisco, CA
It is not the Summer of Love, but it is one of the most colorful summer street fairs The City has to offer. There is lots to see and do, but the most interesting sight of all may be the Deadheads, punks, grunge-meisters, and yuppies all mingling to the sounds of music and the aroma of the organic and not-so organic treats offered up by the street merchants. The fair, which takes place in June, is always crowded, so public transportation is definitely the way to get there.
