14th Juried Exhibition

The works of 55 photographers from around the country are on display in the 14th Juried Exhibition. The show includes a photograph by Bremner Benedict, winner of the $1,000 Arthur Griffin Legacy Award for her piece, Between Here and There, part of a narrative project on symbolic deaths people suffer in a lifetime. Justyna Badach received the $500 Griffin Award for her photograph Kirk, 2007, part of a series of portraits of single men depicting the places where they withdraw from the world to think, meditate, and fantasize. Honorable mentions were awarded to Andrea Land and Cyrus Karimipour. Brian Shumway and Nicole Hatanaka were awarded exhibitions on the Griffin Museum website. The juror for this year's exhibition was Katherine Ware, curator of photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

David Bookbinder, Flower Mandalas

Among the artists in the 14th Juried Exhibition, David Bookbinder and Laurie Lambrecht were chosen to present a joint show in the Atelier Gallery. Bookbinder exhibits Flower Mandalas, patterns of color and light that are digitally manipulated to create healing images. Lambrecht shows Lake Trees, a series of photographs of trees that reflects the ever-changing language of landscape.

Joan Johnson High School Exhibition
Griffin Gallery

Show runs though August 31

This exhibit showcases the work of area high school seniors participating in the 14th Juried Exhibition. Students were asked to submit an image that best represented them, personally and photographically. The photographs were also judged on whether they were technically well produced, compelling, and original. Recipient of the $1,000 Joan Johnson Scholarship is Aaron Freedman, a student at Concord Academy in Concord, MA, for his black-and-white photo, The Brophy Boys. Jurors were photographers Andrea Rosenthal and Andrew Kessler.

June 5, 6:15-7PM

Before the openings of the exhibits, museum members can enjoy a gallery talk with David Bookbinder, a photographer and psychotherapist showing his Flower Mandalas in the Atelier Gallery.
