Fairmount French Fling Weekend and Bastille Day Celebration

  

Visit the Eastern State Penitentiary for an exciting, France-themed weekend!  The celebrations kick off  with a "French Fling Bar Crawl" on July 9th, then "Fairmount Goes French" for some family fun on the 10th.  Don't miss the Bastille Day celebrations on July 11th, where you can see reenactments of the French Revolution and watch history come alive.

Bastille Days in Milwaukee

  

There’s no French Fest at Maier Festival Park, but French and Cajun culture still has a home in the City Of Festivals: Bastille Days rules Cathedral Square Park in Milwaukee from July 9-12th. Come and celebrate Bastille Day with European street performers, roaming minstrels, music stages, wine and food demonstrations, sand carving and a waiter/waitress obstacle race. The 42-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower is a must-see!

Summer Redneck Games

  
The Summer Redneck Games take place July 11th 2009 in Buckeye Park in East Dublin, Georgia.  From Noon to 10pm, enjoy competitions such as the Mud-Pit Belly Flop, Dumpster Dive, or Armpit Serenade.  Listen to the Bobby Compton Band, Sweet Misfortune Band, and more while fireworks end the ceremonies with a bang.

Rock Around the Block

  

Rock Around the Block features about thirty of the windy city's best bands continuously performing on three unique stages and four full blocks of interactive fun! Located at one of the most highly visible intersections in Chicago on Lincoln Avenue at Belmont.  Over 40,000 people jam onto the four city blocks to experience Chicago's ultimate music and culinary fare. If you like to have fun and listen to music then this event is a must see!

Artisans and crafts vendors, a wide variety of great food, and an array of street performers add to this incredible weekend. Rock Around the Block is an over-all great experience!  Be there July 11th-12th.

Tewkesbury Medieval Festival

  

From July 11th-12th, come to Tewkesbury for its vibrant and lively Medieval Festival!  Tewkesbury Medieval Festival includes a huge re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury, featuring around 2000 warriors, including knights in full armor, gunners, with cannon and hand guns, archers, with the traditional English Longbow, and men at arms with swords, spears and other weapons of the period, all brought to life with a lively and informed commentary, and taking place on part of the site of the original battle of 1471.  It's sure to be a great time for the whole family.

Weird Contest Week

  

Visit Ocean City for its annual Weird Contest Week.  Revel in the unusual and wacky like Taffy Sculpting, French Fry Sculpting, Artistic Pie Eating, Wet T-shirt Tossing, Putrid Puns and Celebrity Super Hero Impersonations.  Stick around for the famous "Miss Miscellaneous" contest, Ocean City's answer to "Miss America" and such.  You won't want to miss the fun!

Civil War Reenactment

  

Union and Confederate troops will re-enact a skirmish during the fierce Battle of Second Bull Run (1862) at Old Bethpage Village Restoration on July 18 - 19.  The skirmish will take place both days from 11 a.m. - noon and 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., involving Union infantry forces pursuing the rebels.  During this weekend, OBVR departs from its mission of strictly interpreting 19th-century Long Island life to present a vivid portrait of the Civil War period in the Virginia countryside.  In addition to the planned skirmishes, volunteers for both armies will demonstrate military drills, musket firing and other camp duties. Additional activities include fiddle music from noon to 4 p.m. each day.

Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta

  

The Darwin Lions have been holding their annual Beer Can Regatta on Mindil Beach in Australia since 1974.  Participate by entering a Beer Can or soft drink boat in the Regatt, or come be a spectator and enjoy the festivities.  Both adults and children will enjoy activites like a sandcastle competition, running races, a tug-of-war, a flip-flop throwing competion, and of course the Beer Can Regatta itself.  Come have some fun in the sun in beautiful Australia!

Eastern European Vintage Bike Rally

  

Join Transylvania Rider’s Eastern European Vintage Bike Rally this July in Turda, Romania. We gather to remember old times and enjoy the new ones! Don’t miss the Cheetah bike race on the salt track and Vintage bike street race in Turda - a competition founded in 1947.  The arrival date for 2009 is Thursday July 23nd with the events going over the weekend of the 24rd to the 26th and leaving on the Monday the 27th.

Get to Whiting, Indiana July 24th-26th for Pierogifest, a fun-filled celebration of Eastern European dunplings!  Enjoy polka music and dance performances as you nosh on flavorful pierogi.  Don't miss the main event - the Polka Parade. The Parade will include such spectacles as the Babushka Brigade, Pierogi Pups, and the Lawn Mower Drill Team.  Try and catch a glimpse of Mr.Pierogi, the mascot spreading good cheer to all Pierogifest visitors.

Festa dell'Unicorno

  

Enter a fantasy world at the Festa dell'Unicorno (Unicorn Festival) in Vinci, Florence.  Come see participants in fantastic costume as mystical creatures.  Fairies, elves, and other fantastic creatures rule the day, as they perform dramatic scenes of magic and wonderment.  Be scared witless by the Avenue of Fear and its Gothic drama; your dreams and fantasies will take shape right before your eyes!  The festivites take place in Italy from July 25th-26th.

19th Century Music and Dancing

  

In the 19th century, a popular form of entertainment involved listening to fiddle tunes and dancing to the calls of the local dance-master. On Sunday, July 26, visitors to Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OBVR) will be able to enjoy a re-creation of this slice of 19th-century American culture through a performance by the Old Bethpage Village Dancers, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. The event will take place in the Noon Inn Picnic Grove, with three performances at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.  While you're there, why not wander the grounds and take some pictures of the restored 18th-19th century homes?

Sandringham Flower Show

  

Sandringham Flower Show is one of the most prestigious horticultural events in the East of England. Now in its 128th year, it is much more than just a Flower Show. It is a unique event offering both the best in horticulture and a fantastic day of family entertainment.  Set in the magnificent surroundings of Sandringham Park with Sandringham House and Sandringham Church as a backdrop, this one-day Show attracts around 20,000 visitors each year. Many of the region’s leading nurseries and horticultural specialists exhibit.  In addition to these displays the show features showgardens and courtyard gardens by leading designers which are built on the showground, in excess of 200 trade stands (both horticultural and general), a craft marquee, main arena events, children's entertainment and a military band.  The Royal marquees contain the judged displays of vegetables and fruit, flowers, floral art, and include open classes. In the amateur’s marquee, local gardening and horticultural clubs enter a judged display competition, whilst the Horticultural Trades marquee features amazing displays by leading nurseries. The profits from each show are donated to local charities and since 1977 the Committee have donated in excess of £421,000  to local charities.  Admission charges include entrance to Sandringham Gardens, Museum and Church, all of which border the showground. For the sixth year the Show will be held in association with the Eastern Daily Press.  We welcome everyone to Sandringham Flower Show, and trust that you will have a truly wonderful day.
