I love photography because it captures memories and sometimes makes new ones. Life moves so quickly that when you sit back and look at the photos taken on a trip, for example, sometimes you have captured a moment that moved by too quickly when it happened, but which is now captured forever on film (or in pixels). These photos were taken on a recent trip to Thailand. Thailand is a beautiful, magical country with beautiful temples and amazing people. But what I remember best and what I will be returning to are the elephants. I spent a magical day and an elephant sanctuary and plan to return for 2 weeks this winter as an elephant volunteer. I hope you like these pictures. ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty The elephant with the broken tusk is Boon. His tusk was cut off by a poacher using a chain saw. Young Hope is four and a typical mischevious child rolling in the sand after his bath. Even though they have had tough lives, these elephants have learned to trust humans and often stop by looking for snacks. Close ups: one trunk or two? (by the way, did you know that elephants drool when they eat?) ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty In addition, we visited Bang Pa-In Palace and the Floating Temple, The River Kwai (and the allied cemetary) and Burma (white ceramic elephant). ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty ![]() © 2005 Denise Lafferty
