Photography became an important part of my life 10 years ago when I was recovering from a work-related injury. I took art classes throughout my childhood and art history in high school. Besides this, I have no formal training in photography. I simply find taking pictures of what I love extremely gratifying. ![]() BBG’s own Great Egret PHOTO: Sarah Weisburg Caught in the act. When one thinks of New York City the natural beauty of Mother Nature is probably not what first comes to mind. Many city residents do not realize how many beautiful spots there are within their city limits, especially here. ![]() BBG’s Japanese Garden prior to major summer 2000 renovation. A couple of years ago I donated a few prints to the community committee of the Brooklyn Museum. They were auctioned off to help raise some needed funds. Photography was my contribution and my pleasure.

With the help of a vocational counselor I began to explore ways of how I might market my images. However, before I could come up with a solid plan, I was disabled by a cerebral aneurysm. I am recovering now, but am only able work 2-3 hours a day. Photography has helped me appreciate everyday life and the places I really care about. Taking pictures brings me a tremendous amount of satisfaction and is something I intend on continuing every day for a long time to come. ![]() Sarah's Article as seen in the Spring/Summer Planned Giving Newsletter of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (BBG) "Walking through the garden gates relaxes anyone. You just cannot be your usual crazy self in here", says Sarah Weisberg, an enthusiastic hobby photographer and charter member of the Forsythia Society.
In fact, Ms. Weisberg’s interest in the Garden and photography came about quite by accident, literally. She needed some peace and quite as she was recuperating from a work related injury. She discovered the magic of the garden, and now spends most of her time photographing her favorite plants and wildlife at BBG. "The Garden us very important to me. That’s why BBG is included in my estate plan", she says. BBG joins Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Nature Conservancy as the beneficiaries of Ms. Weisberg’s generosity.
