Analog View

Analog View

This week Brandon reminisces about the old style viewing machines, and shares an image from near the Statue of Liberty.

Hello and Happy Friday;

I think we all remember when we were younger and we saw these viewer
machines out at a variety of landmarks and scenic areas.  I think they
are a great piece of Americana and hope they survive for years to
come.  They remind me of the recent loss of parking meters in NYC and
other cities -  the constant change to digital forms of all devices.

Perhaps one day there will be a device at the Statue of Liberty or
Grand Canyon where you put a quarter in and the image pops up on an
LCD and you lose the experience of climbing up and looking through the
viewfinders.

The Tower Optical Company has been making these 10x42
viewers since 1932.

Sort of like the classic View-Master
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View-Master).

A relic in the digital age.

Have a nice weekend.

Brandon
