52 Most Influential Photographs

52_influential.jpg

At his blog www.lukeprog.com, Luke lists the 52 most influential photographs ever taken.  I love lists like these for two reasons.  First, they often contain powerful, beautiful, shocking, and controversial images.  Second, it's always fun to debate what belongs that was omitted and what should have been omitted but somehow made the list.  Take a look and feel free to comment away.  I suppose when debating this particular list, you have to keep in mind that Luke was going for influence, not just beauty or achievement.

Two fun photo games online

If you're looking for a little online time-killer, here are two photo-related online games:

The first is Panasonic's TEMPLE OF ZOOM game, where you run around the screen as an adventurous stick figure.  If you live in the UK, you can also get a 10% discount on a Panasonic purchase.

The second (STOP! PRESS!) is a little old and was a promotional tool for the movie SUPERMAN RETURNS, but it's a fun game nonetheless.  Armed with a DSLR, your goal is to capture shots of Superman as he flies around various cities for the Daily Planet.

A Photo Story That Tugs at the Heartstrings

Last month, a member of the f295.org forums named Andrew posted an image in celebration of ANZAC Day in New Zealand, the national day of rememberance for those who lost their lives in war.  The image he posted was of service medals awarded to Geoffrey Tinegate of the 9th Worcestershires who was killed in action during the battle for Sari Bair on August 10th, 1915.

Andrew expressed his disdain for how these medals often ended up at auction and his desire for them to be returned the families of those who earned them.  As chance would have it, Tinegate's niece Trish found the post and connected with Andrew.  Read the entire thread (link below) to see how fate (and the graciousness of Andrew and his wife) got the medals back in the hands of their rightful owners.

This is a great story and shows how one photograph can do a world of good.

TakeGreatPictures.com Blog is Launched!

take great pictures blog logo

Hi Everybody! For over six years now, the staff at TakeGreatPictures.com has been bringing you interviews with Master Photographers, Celebrities Who Shoot, Contests, Photo Tips & Techniques, product news and reviews, photo book reviews, and much, much more. You've read about TakeGreatPictures.com in magazines like US Weekly, People, etc. and seen our regional contributors on local and national tv stations. Well, we finally decided that it's about time we get into this "blogging" thing as well (better late than never, right?).

While we'll still be running the main site as we have been, this blog will serve as a place for us to put various posts that might not fit elsewhere on the site (from the poignant to the informative to the absurd and fun), as well as any major announcements and weekly recaps of new articles.

So bear with us, we're new to this stuff...
